7-segment led

Hi friends,in the last tutorial I had said about LED. Now I am introducing a component which is made from connecting several LEDs. U might hv seen it  in the lab of G.I.E.T  or at other like watches.
A seven segment display basic electronic display device that can display digits from 0-9 and some alphabets.
An array of eight LEDs arranged in a special pattern to display these digits. I hv given  figure which is available in market & also the internal connection of 7-segment.

7 LEDs r numbered as ‘a’- ’g’ (7) & the other as  ‘h‘ for dp(decimal point) .
It is available in ten pin package. While eight pins correspond to the eight LEDs, the remaining two pins  COM (at middle) are common and internally shorted.
These segments come in two configurations, but may be of different colours namely
1> Common cathode (CC)             &                 2> Common anode (CA).
CC configuration, the negative terminals of all LEDs r connected to the common pins. The common is connected to ground and a particular LED glows when its corresponding pin is given high.
In CA arrangement, the common pin is given a high logic and the LED pins are given low to display a number.
I hv given the ckt which I hv designed in multisim software. In side I hv given the digit which can be displayed on this 7-segment.

When u r giving  5v to the pins then u hv to use a current limiting resistor as led requires 18-20ma current.
I think 7-segment is clear to u. JUST buy a it (cost is 8-10 rupees)  and check it out by giving supply at different pins.
Please give ur comment about this article.
So hv fun...    Hv a nice day
