Voltage Divider circuit...An Important Concept

In this tutorial we will learn about Voltage Divider Ckt which is very important in  ckt-theory.
Voltage is divided across different resistive element proportional to its Resistance value. The current remains same in a series ckt.
For this reason a series circuit is often called a voltage divider for its ability to proportion -- or divide -- the total voltage into fractional portions of constant ratio or according to its resistance.

Consider the series  ckt in the left upper side of figure which I hv designed using multisim software

The ratio of individual resistance to total resistance is the same as the ratio of individual voltage drop to total supply voltage in a voltage divider circuit. This is known as the voltage divider formula, and it is a short-cut method for determining voltage drop in a series circuit without going through the current calculation  of Ohm's Law.

Voltage dividers find wide application in electric meter circuits, where specific combinations of series resistors are used to "divide" a voltage into precise proportions as part of a voltage measurement device.
Practical application- potentiometer

A potentiometer is a variable-resistance component with three connection points, frequently used as an adjustable voltage divider.  which is a resistor with a movable element positioned by a manual  knob or lever. The movable element, typically called a wiper, makes contact with a resistive strip of  at any point selected by the manual control. The figure is given in left side.

The potentiometer  divides the voltage in to different proportions depending on its movable positions. It is used in different ckts whery we require less voltage than the battery provided.
I think it is cleared to u.
